Although I have several raglan patterns, I wasn't happy with the shape of their sleeve at the underarm. The Marie-Claude has a very refined fit that is still comfortable and not tight. The neckline is also pleasing and the mock turtleneck behaves itself well. I don't find that it's possible to fold the collar down because the top edge is smaller in circumference than lower down. I removed 3 1/2" from the sleeve to get the right length for using with the cuff (I'm 5'2"). Also shortened the body 2". I don't have any interest in the hood or the cuff with thumb holes so I can't comment on those aspects.
This is very quick to sew up once the pattern adjustments are made--except for the bottom hem. Still trying to find my best strategy for finishing this feature. For my third version, I have created a facing pattern for the hem. Especially on tricky fabrics, I'm hoping the faced hem will produce a nicer finish and be easier, if more time-consuming, to complete.
Yes, this pattern is the absolute best I have ever used and I have been sewing for well over 50 years professionally…. 1 alteration only because I’m a pear shape I have to add to the hip area all the time …. That’s it …. This pattern is a dream …. Wish I would have used it right away instead of waiting over a year with it sitting on the counter top wondering how many changes I would have to make to it … love, love, love
The patterns does not include finished garment measurements or indicate ease. It has ZERO ease, which I discovered only by measuring pattern pieces after printing and assembling. Plan to add your desired amount, or size up. Also, the children's sizes are simply scaled-down women's cut with waist shaping, so adjust there if your child is still pretty straight.
Other than these minor issues, it's straightforward to make.
I found this a pleasure to make because it’s so simple to follow the pattern & instructions.
I made the raglan top with a plain body & patterned sleeves & neck so it look really effective. I made leggings to match the sleeves so it looks really funky together.
Surprised at how quickly an amateur stitcher like me with no actual training to sew (did a bit a school but mostly learned from experience!) yet this was easy & pleasurable to make.
I can't even count how many times I have made this pattern. It fits great from toddler to adult sizes. This is the top I use for my annual "pajama factory" for nieces, my daughters and myself. I also have several in my day wardrobe. I love the different necklines.
